Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as children of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: “Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, n. 1213)
Baptism of children at St Patrick's
As we work together to arrange your child's baptism, we ask that you fill out this form and return it by email. If you wish to discuss your preparation for Baptism with a priest, please let us know.
Normally, all parents of prospective children must attend the baptismal preparation programme offered at St Patrick's. You will need to speak with a priest if you seek exemption from this programme.
You should choose at least one Godparent, but not more than two. If you choose two, one must be male and one female. The Godparent must normally be at least 16 years of age, baptised, confirmed and has already received the Most Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist and who leads a life of faith in keeping with the function to be taken on.
To help us maintain our historic Albury church, there is a customary offering or donation of your choice. We respectfully ask for a minimum donation of $75, but please let us know if this is an issue for you. We will provide you with a memorial certificate and a white garment to symbolise the gift of grace. We also provide a simple Baptismal Candle, the lasting sign of the spiritual gift of faith, which "is to be kept burning brightly" (Ceremony of Baptism). Beautiful, personalised Baptismal Candles may also be ordered online through a local family business at sacredcandles.com.au.
If you are an adult and seek to be baptised, please contact one of the priests.
If you have any questions, please email or call us on 02 6041 2588.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Fr Steven Ledinich PP.
